Here am I send me!
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. - Isaiah 6:8 KJV
What was the LORD’s purpose in revealing Himself to Isaiah? And what can we learn from it? As the LORD prepared Isaiah for service (as His prophet) He also prepares all His children for serving Him. We see Isaiah confronted with the Holiness of God. He saw the LORD high and lifted up in all His splendor and glory. As the seraphs testified to God’s holiness, Isaiah was overwhelmed by his own sinfulness. The threefold call of the seraphs holy, holy, holy made it clear that God is most holy. Isaiah, in sharp contrast as man, who is the exact opposite of God, is most sinful.
God’s holiness magnifies our sinfulness. No wonder that Isaiah said, “Woe is me for I am undone!”
As the seraphs came to him with a burning coal taken from the altar and touched his lips, his guilt was taken away, and his sins atoned for. Here we see God’s sovereign grace on display. Notice the pattern for service to God: holiness, sinfulness, grace, and then service. As we are confronted by God’s holiness (which expose our sinfulness), then His grace prepares us for service.
God said, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Are we prepared to volunteer and say, “Here am I send me!”
